Gobbling with Thanks

Sleeping in, kids home, the Macys Parade, gorging in the afternoon, must be a traditional Thanksgiving. It's our normal t'day, except that we don't have a crowd this year, so we're giving Diane a much needed break from cooking and going out to eat. Actually, the cooking will be postponed until tomorrow, for Erin's birthday. Twentieth. One score years. Twenty rings on the tree. I suddenly feel a bit older.

The graphic above is a GIF animation I threw together for Thanksgiving 1997. I call it "Evolution of the Turkey Sandwich".

So much to be thankful for. The freedoms we still have, opportunities to work hard and make decent livings, chances to start over when we mess up or life deals us a lousy hand. No matter how shrill the whining of the haters of freedom and all our ancestors fought and died for, in spite of our personal, corporate and political shortcomings, this is the best country on Earth.

So, why not be thankful? Thankfulness goes hand-in-hand with hope and peace. Let's all try to spend more energy being thankful this year. Don't let political talking points tell you how happy or miserable you are. Don't stampede with the thoughtless herd. Figure it out for yourself!

Catch the game! Watch the National Dog Show! Gobble 'til ya wobble! OD on tryptophan ! Have a Thanksgiving to remember, and look forward to the Advent season. God bless y'all!
